Designing for Good

Announcing Third Sun’s New Community Grant Program

Troy and I were once nonprofit employees at KRCL 90.9 FM, more than 12 years ago now. With a limited marketing budget at the station, we always appreciated the efforts of willing and talented volunteers, including many who contributed graphic design to create great Radiothon T-shirts, print ads, and other creative work. They were enthusiastic advocates, great cheerleaders, and just plain good souls. The quality they all had in common was a love of community and a desire to give back. And maybe also a love of the underdog.

Once we were on the business side of the equation, we also wanted to contribute where we could. And of course, we have a soft spot for the people in our commuity who see a need and answer the call. Those folks cannot be underestimated, but sometimes they need a boost to advance in a way they cannot on their own. We’ve been lucky to be part of many growing organizations, and hope that our efforts have furthered their reach. From the get-go, it’s been a natural part of our business model to provide in-kind services to local nonprofits, and we’ve never regretted it.

While we’ve always provided in-kind work every year we’ve been in business, this year we are starting a Design for Good Community Grant Program to provide a more formalized process to take in applications from local nonprofit organizations that are in a position to benefit most from what we can offer them, including branding and website design. We’ve worked with hundreds of nonprofit organizations so we know the drill — limited funds, never enough time, passionate people. For the right organization, we can provide the guidance, skills, and support to get from Point A to Point B — a step that can make all the difference in the world to the advancement and potential of a small organization. As with most things in life, the key is to work smart, so what we promise to the chosen organization is our experience to know where to start, our insight to guide your message to have more impact, and our skills to make it all work together.

Applications will be accepted March 15, 2017-April 30, 2017. We look forward to reviewing applications and having another opportunity to Design for Good.
