Narrative:
Naming projects are unique experiences to be part of because people often have emotional connections to names that are hard to change or break. But our friends at Utah Health and Human Rights had inherited a name that felt very far from their actual vital work to empower and help heal survivors of torture.
To help find good alternatives to choose from, we worked to gain insights from both its internal stakeholders (staff, therapists, and board) and its external stakeholders (partner organizations and people they help, including refugees, asylum seekers, and immigrants) through surveys. We asked questions that focused on their impact and ethos. From there, we developed a list of possible options, including names that might offer a meaningful acronym.
Ultimately, we settled on THRIVE Center for Survivors of Torture, knowing that THRIVE stands for "Trauma Healing for Resilience, Integration, Voice and Empowerment."
After the name change, we decided with the client that evolving their previous visual identity, originally done by local designer, Gabriella Hunter, made the most sense. Adjusting both the logo mark, color palette, and typefaces, we pulled the sunflower out beyond the original circle to represent thriving and hope.
This website design focuses on evoking a safe and supportive space for those helping survivors navigate trauma. We created a modern, responsive layout, ensuring that users could access resources easily on any device. Our imagery reflects the strength of survivors while remaining sensitive to their experiences.
We helped craft content that is both informative and compassionate, highlighting THRIVE’s services, impact statistics, and easy ways to refer survivors.
This project reaffirmed our belief in the power of thoughtful design to make a difference. We’re proud to support organizations like THRIVE and look forward to future collaborations that empower those in need.
